From October 29, 2023 new baggage rules are in effect based on the Regional and Mid-Atlantic flights.
These new rules are applicable only if you travel with a ticket issued on or after October 29, 2023.
On the E-ticket the weight (and number) of the allowed piece(s) of free baggage is mentioned in the box “Baggage Allowance”.
Below is an overview of the allowed baggage free of charge on Regional and the Mid-Atlantic flights.

As a passenger you have the right to take along, free of charge, a fixed quantity of baggage.
For adults and children older than two years, the following baggage rules apply:
Hand Baggage:
In addition to your checked baggage, you are allowed to carry on hand baggage.
However the quantity and size are strictly limited. On flights between Paramaribo and Amsterdam, 1 (one) hand baggage which may not weigh more than 10 kg and the size (length + width + height) may not be more than 115 cm.
For example a bag 25x40x55cm is not allowed, since 25 + 40 + 55cm = 120 cm.
On our Regional flights 1 (one) hand baggage is allowed which may not weigh more than 10 kg and the size (length + width + height) may not be more than 115 cm.
Also it is allowed to carry with you on board during your journey, the following personal items at no charge:
- Overcoat, cloak
- Walking stick
- Baby food for use on board
- Carry cot and/or completely foldable stroller
- Completely foldable wheelchair, a pair of crutches, and/or orthopedic aids for the passenger.
Your free of charge checked baggage is limited in number, weight and dimensions. If during check in it appears that your checked baggage has exceeded the limits, there is question of excess baggage and charges will be applied.
Excess baggage rates are exclusively applicable for a one-way flight carried out by the SLM.
If it appears that for your baggage several excess baggage rates apply all those rates applicable will be added up.

Note:
1A. Applicable to Economy class baggage allowance 1 piece : Only 4 (four) extra pieces are allowed as checked baggage, however simultaneous transport of the number of extra pieces depends on availability of space.

2. Items in excess of 32 kg (70 lbs) will not be accepted as baggage and may be only be transported as freight.

For excess baggage taken on flights between Paramaribo and Amsterdam, the excess baggage costs can be paid in advance at the SLM booking office or at one of the authorized travel agents.
In that case you are entitled to a discount of USD 25.00 or EUR 25.00 applicable on the excess baggage rates.

It is allowed to take along special baggage such as sports equipment, musical instruments or a pet.
Certain types of sports equipment and musical instruments may form part of the standard free baggage allowance. The maximum weight allowed is 23 kg (50 lbs.) and only one piece will be carried free in lieu of the first piece within the free baggage allowance.
Exceptions:
Bicycle, with a maximum weight of 23 kg (50 lbs.) and a with the maximum measurement of 158 cm (62 inch),
Surfboard, with a length between 107 and 292 cm (42 – 115 inch) and a maximum weight of 23 kg (50 lbs.),
Scuba Tank, with a maximum weight of 23 kg (50 lbs.) are subject to excess baggage charge. (See overview of costs.)
Other types of special baggage and eventually more than one piece is also subject to excess baggage charges.
Golf bags are an exception: On top of the free baggage allowance a person can take along free of charge one golf bag as checked baggage. A golf bag containing 14 golf clubs, 12 balls and a pair of golf shoes for a total weight of 23 kg (50 lbs.).
Important: The carriage of special baggage must always be arranged in advance and timely prior to the day of departure.

Fishing Equipment | Fishing equipment may only be accepted when it is properly encased and it consists of 1 fishing tackle box, 1 landing net, 1 pair of fishing boots, 1 reel and up to 2 rods. |
Golf Equipment | Accepted golfing equipment consists of 1 golf bag, up to 14 golf clubs, up to 12 golf balls, and 1 pair of golf shoes. |
Guitar | Accepted in hard carrying case. |
Ice Hockey | Equipment accepted is a team kit including sticks, helmet, skates, pads, pucks, gloves etc. Accepted travel case is a recognized ice hockey kit or team bag. All stick bags will be accepted but these will incur excess baggage charges. |
Scuba Equipment | Scuba/ diving equipment consisting of not more than one (1) each of the following: air supply regulator, tank pressure gauge, tank harness, face mask, pair of diving fins, snorkel, knife, safety vest, air pistol, spear gun, weight belt is permitted. Scuba Equipment | Scuba compressed air/gas tanks will be accepted only if empty and valve is open/ removed. |
Surfboard Equipment | Surfboard equipment is defined as one surfboard required to be in a surfboard case. All surfboard equipment must not exceed 115 linear inches and is subject to the applicable excess baggage charge. |

Baggage for children younger than 2 years .
For a child younger than 2 years booked to travel without a seat the following can be taken along:
- 1 piece of checked baggage with a maximum weight of 10 kg (22 lbs) containing care products for the child .
- A completely collapsible buggy or baby carriage as free checked baggage.
- 1 piece of cabin luggage with articles for care of the child on board with a maximum weight of 10 kg (22 lbs) and maximum dimensions of 55 + 35+ 25cm (21 + 13 + 10 inch).
Restricted articles
Articles that may pose a risk to the safety of other passengers and crew may not be carried in your hand baggage or check-in baggage.

Liquids in your hand baggage
Liquids may only be carried in your hand baggage in small amounts not exceeding 100 ml ( 3.4 oz) per article. These must be placed in a transparent and sealable plastic bag with a volume of no more than 1 litre. The bag must be closed and the articles must fit inside easily. One transparent plastic bag may be taken per person.
Firearms
In your hand baggage or check-in baggage you may not carry articles which are or appear capable of firing a projectile or causing injury, such as:
- Air pistols, air rifles and pellet guns
- BB guns (ball bearing guns)
- Catapults
- Crossbows
- Firearm components (except telescopic viewing equipment and view finders)
- Firearms (pistols, revolvers, rifles, etc.)
- Harpoons and spear guns
- Humane animal killers
- Industrial staple and nail guns
- Jewellery or amulets made out of live bullets or empty bullet shells
- Lighters
- Replica and imitation firearms
- Signal flare pistols
- Starting pistols
- Stun or shocking devices, e.g. cattle prods and ballistic conducted energy systems
- Toy guns
Under certain conditions and prior approval some firearms and ammunition intended for sports and hunting purposes may be carried as check-in baggage.
Pointed/edged weapons & objects
- In your hand baggage you may not carry pointed or edged objects that could cause injury, such as:
- Arrows and darts
- Axes and hatchets
- Climbing irons
- Harpoons and spears
- Ice axes and ice picks
- Ice skates
- Jack-knives or flick knives with blades of any length
- Knives, including ceremonial knives, with a blade of more than 6 cm (2.5 inches), made of metal or other material strong enough to be used as a weapon
- Machetes
- Meat cleavers
- Open razors (excluding safety or disposable razors with blades enclosed in cartridges)
- Sabres, swords and sword sticks
- Scalpels
- Scissors with blades more than 6 cm in length
- Ski and walking/hiking poles
- Throwing stars
- Tools that could be used as a pointed or edged weapon, e.g. drills and drill bits, Stanley knives, utility knives, all saws, screwdrivers, crowbars, hammers, pliers, wrenches and spanners, soldering equipment
Blunt instruments
In your hand baggage you may not take any blunt instruments which have the potential to cause injury, such as:
• Baseball and softball bats
• Billiard, snooker and pool cues
• Cricket bats
• Fishing rods
• Golf clubs
• Hockey sticks
• Kayak or canoe paddles
• Lacrosse sticks
• Martial arts equipment, e.g. knuckledusters, sticks, clubs, flails, numchucks, kubatons and kubasaunts
• Rigid and flexible clubs or batons, e.g. truncheons, blackjacks and batons
• Skateboards,
• Hover & Self Balancing & Gravity cards, E-skates; all with Lithium battery
Explosives and flammable substances
In your hand baggage or check-in baggage you may not take any explosive or highly flammable substances which may pose a risk to the health or property of passengers and crew or to the safety of the aircraft, such as:
- Aerosol spray paint cans
- Alcoholic beverages exceeding 70% by volume (140% proof)
- Ammunition
- Blasting caps
- Detonators and fuses
- Explosives and explosive devices
- Fireworks or flares in any form (including firecrackers and toy caps)
- Flammable liquid fuel, e.g. petrol, diesel, lighter fluid, alcohol, ethanol
- Gas and gas bottles, e.g. butane, propane, acetylene, oxygen in large volumes
- Grenades
- Matches, except safety matches
- Mines and other explosive military devices
- Replica or imitation explosive materials or explosives
- Smoke grenades or cartridges
- Turpentine and paint thinner
Chemical and toxic substances
It is strictly prohibited to take any chemical or toxic substances with you that may pose a risk to the health or property of passengers and crew or to the safety of the aircraft. These include:
- Acids and alkalis, e.g. spillable ‘wet’ batteries
- Corrosive or bleaching substances, e.g. mercury and chlorine
- Disabling or incapacitating sprays, e.g. mace, pepper spray, tear gas
- Fire extinguishers
- Infectious or biologically hazardous material, e.g. infected blood, bacteria and viruses
- Material capable of spontaneous ignition or combustion
- Poisons
- Radioactive material, e.g. medicinal or commercial isotopes
